  •  Music News Blast - GnR, Busta, Paul McCartney, Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, Bizkit and more! - Posted by Eric at 12:16 PM
Hey all. Eric here. I know I've been absent for a while now and all three of us really haven't been posting too much lately. But here's looking toward a bright horizon. To get back into the swing of things I want to post a "News Blast" with some of this past weeks top music related stories. Read on and enjoy!

Guns N' Roses is getting even closer to the supposed release of Chinese Democracy. Best Buy apparently snagged the exclusive retailer rights to the album last week which would have a release before the year's end. Some details, however, are still being hashed out... of course, the release date being one of them.

Rapper Busta Rhymes was denied entry into the U.K. and detained at London City Airport by immigration officials on the 25th around 7:30am. He was scheduled to play a benefit show for RockCorps at Royal Albert Hall in London on the 26th. The denial was due to "unresolved coviction in the U.S.A." Althought his lawyer presented papers in support, Busta was denied and arrangements were set for him to fly to Amsterdam. At 9am, High Court Judge Mr. Justice Flaux (awesome name for a judge if you ask me), granted an injunction to prevent Busta returning to Amsterdam. A hearing was supposedly held the next day but no news has been released thus far.

Paul McCartney performed his first concert in Israel on the 25th in Tel Aviv to a crowd of 40,000+. The concert was billed as "Friendship First" with McCartney saying he's on a mission of peace for Israel and the Palestinians. The show was 43 years in the making for McCartney. The Beatles were scheduled for a performance back in 1965 but an Israeli official supposedly called off the concert for fear it would corrupt the nation's youth. Newspaper columnist Yossi Sarid, son of the Israeli official who allegedly banned the Beatles, went on a campaign to clear his father's name. Sarid stands by the factg that his father had no part in the decision and that it involved a feud between two Israeli concert promoters. What's the true story? Who knows.

The ballot for next years Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions have been announced! On the top of that list is none other than Metallica. Run-D.M.C., the Stooges, Jeff Beck, Chic, Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, War and Bobby Womack. The rules are simple for eligibility - 25 years must have passed since the release of their first single. Five of the nine will be chosen in January for a ceremony that will be held April 4 at Clevland's Public Hall. Next years event will mark the first time the ceremony will be open to the public. It's a pretty descent ballot with some substantial musicians on the list. My predictions are Metallica, Run-D.M.C., the Stooges, Jeff Beck, and War.

Kanye West and 50 Cent are gearing up for battle once again. Both artists will release new albums one week apart from each other this December. 50 Cent will release Before I Self Destruct on Decmber 9 while Kanye will put out 808's and Heartbreak on December 16. Last September the two artists release albums with a hoard of trash talk and egotistical slander toward each other. Kanye's Graduation easily outsold 50's Curtis.

Travis Barker (most known for his time as the drummer in Bilnk 182, amongst other things), is reportedly doing well emotionally, according to his friend and business partner, Jermaine Dupri, after the horrific plane crash that killed four people and seriously injured Barker and DJ AM. While DJ AM was released the other day, Barker is expected to spend two more weeks in the hospital. He was burned on his torso and lower part of his body, but is expected by doctors to make a full recovery.

Well, the Limp Bizkit rumors have been floating around the internet heavily the past week, but don't get too excited. The band has NOT replaced guitarist Wes Borland with Evanescence's Terry Balsamo. A source close to Balsamo told MTV's Metal File that the guitarist has not left Evanescence, but is working on a side project with Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers in Jacksonville, FL at River's Born Recording Studio.

Jonathan Davis is currently writing material for his forthcoming solo record. After 15 years of touring and recording, he says KoRn is finally taking a break. According to MTV, Davis said his solo material is a complete departure from Korn's sound. "[There's] a lot of electronic stuff in it. It's really vibe-y, a lot of world-music stuff going on. It's definitely different from Korn, but what's cool about this record I'm working on now, you can actually go on my Web site and you can watch me write it. I have a camera, and I don't care; I'm just doing it different this way, so all the fans can watch me while I'm working."

  •  Metallica Sets a Record - Posted by Jason at 01:57 PM
After a huge first week showing of almost half a million sales of their new album "Death Magnetic", Metallica have become the only band ever to have 5 studio albums debut at number one. Until now they'd been in a 4 way tie with The Beatles, U2 and The Dave Matthews Band at 4. Pretty impressive company to keep. Even more impressive is that they took the number one spot after only a 3 day sales window, since they decided to release the album on a Friday instead of the usual Tuesday. I think that speaks volumes as to the quality of the material on this album (the production, not so much). It's just that good.

  •  R.I.P. Richard Wright - Posted by Jason at 03:36 PM
God must be putting together one hell of a band. Keyboardist Richard Wright, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, passed away today at 65. Richard started the band along with Roger Waters and Nick Mason. Richard had been battling cancer, so at least he's at peace now. Looks like I'm going to have to go home and crank Dark Side of the Moon tonight...

MI.com sends our deepest condolences to Richard's family, friends and band mates.

  •  Death Magnetic Released!! - Posted by Mike at 05:29 PM

Ah, to be posting about a new Metallica album...that feels good. I've been listening to it all day, and couldn't be happier. Solid front to back in my book, there really isn't a bad track. Not sure if I'll have time to write up a review until Sunday or Monday, due to some obligations this weekend, but you can all be sure there is one coming. We've all been waiting for this one for a while, and it's certainly lived up to expectation, so I'm looking forward to writing about it. Catch you then...

  •  RIP Jerry Reed - Posted by Jason at 01:22 PM
I know this is a couple of days late, but it's too important not to post so here goes...

Legendary singer, songwriter, guitarist, session musician and actor Jerry Reed passed away on August 31st at his home in Nashville. He was 71. Jerry was probably most famous for playing "Snowman" in the Smokey and the Bandit movies but he was also a Grammy winning country singer and an incredible guitar player. He recorded with everyone from Willie Nelson to Elvis and had hit singles on his own with songs like "Amos Moses" and "East Bound and Down" from Smokey and the Bandit. Jerry never stopped working, and leaves behind a legacy of almost 50 albums and dozens of film credits.

Check out this video of Jerry playing with Chet Atkins:

He was a great talent and will truly be missed.

  •  Celtic Frost Disbands - Posted by Jason at 01:29 PM
I don't have much information on this story yet, but it seems that legendary metal band Celtic Frost have called it quits. Founder Tom Fischer has posted the following message online:

"The intense rain outside continues unabated, and, far in the distance, the torn, grey clouds merge with the earth, obscuring any hint of a horizon. A fitting scenery to a final act of ignominy. I attended seven and a half funereal hours of meetings yesterday, initially with Celtic Frost/Triptykon manager Antje Lange, then including Martin Eric Ain and Celtic Frost's accountant, to discuss in detail the dissolution of most of Celtic Frost's business arrangements and the distribution of the group's remaining assets. What an infinitely doleful and emotionally draining undertaking, and one I did not ever wish to witness. And yet one that was probably unavoidable."

Tom left the band a few months back, but nothing official had been said about their future until now. This is indeed a sad day for metal fans, especially considering that 2006's "Monotheist", the bands first album in 16 years, was among the best of their career. Here's to hoping they can get it together for another reunion somewhere down the line.

  •  New Metallica Song Today - Posted by Mike at 09:14 AM
In continuing with our coverage of the soon to be released "Death Magnetic" by Metallica, I wanted to put out a reminder that the first single from the album, "The Day that Never Comes", will be released today at 11am PDT (2pm EDT for all our local friends on the East coast). You should be able to catch it on any self-respecting radio station, or you can head over to Mission Metallica to check it out starting at the same time as well. I've decided to take the whole day off so I can sit around until it's released anticipating how awesome it will be, and then use the rest of the day to listen to it again and again until I slip into a metal induced coma. Should be a great day.

My high expectations notwithstanding, we should have at least one of us with a legitimate review of the song at some point this afternoon. Until then...

Edit: To get the song form Mission Metalica, it looks like you might need to be a Platinum member to get it. Didn't want to send anyone there with bad info, so if you're not a Platinum member, you might want to scope out a radio station.

  •  Leroi Moore of Dave Matthews Bands passes away - Posted by Eric at 10:06 AM

Leroi Moore, the legendary jazz and funk infused saxaphonist for Dave Matthews Band passed away unexpectedly yesterday afternoon. Moore died at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center and he was 46. On June 30, Moore crashed his ATV on his farm outside Charlottesville, Va., but was discharged and returned to his Los Angeles home to begin physical therapy. Complications forced him back to the hospital on July 17, the band said.

Dave Matthews Band still took the stage last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where lead singer Dave Matthews dedicated the entire show to Moore. "It's always easier to leave than be left," Matthews told the crowd, according to the band's publicist. "We appreciate you all being here."

A post of the DMB Road Page Notes site read as follows:

We are mourning our fallen brother. As we sat this afternoon, contemplating the news we had just received, we wondered how we could possibly do a show today. Dave put it into perspective stating, "There's no place I'd rather be than here with you guys right now." We cherish special memories of our lost friend. Tonight, Dave told a story about LeRoi at a bar in Virginia where the cash register was near the stage, and LeRoi leaned on the register because "standing had become a chore" and then played the most beautiful version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Dave said, "that was the day I fell in love with him." It's safe to say we all were in love with him. "It's always easier to leave, than to be left." -DM

All of us at Music Infusion send our thoughts and prayers out to all of Leroi's family and friends. It is a tough loss in for the music world and Leroi was an outstanding musician and from what I gather, one of nicest and kindest people around. I've seen DMB 18 times and each show Leroi always gave his all and added that special element that helped make the band what it is today. Rock on Leroi and rest in peace.

  •  Wes Borland Joins Marilyn Manson...What the Hell? - Posted by Jason at 03:12 PM
I'm not sure what to make of this, but apparently former Limp Bizkit and current Black Light Burns guitarist Wes Borland has joined Marily Manson's seemingly endless list of guitar players. In a press conference yesterday Manson made this statement:

“We have a new guitar player that’s gonna play for the first time tomorrow. It’s the first time we’ll play onstage [together]. His name is Wes Borland, and he used to be in a really terrible band that he left because he felt that it was a destructive force in art, and he has his own band, Black Light Burns, but now he is in Marilyn Manson. We don’t know how permanent that is, but starting tomorrow will be the first step.”

That seems like a pretty odd fit, but I'm excited to hear what Wes brings to the band. If he sticks around long enough to work on a Manson album, hopefully he's allowed to give some input because that would have potential to be a great album. Wes is possibly the only person in music as weird (in a good way) as Marilyn Manson...
